He alone is called a Warrior, who is attached to the Lord’s love in this age.

It is impossible to count the exact number of Sikh Warriors that stood shoulder to shoulder with Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale and attained shaheedi. There were senior Singhs who stayed with Sant Ji and also young men, but children in their early teens were also staying with Sant Ji in big numbers. Amongst the young children who stayed with Sant Ji, was a shining star called Bhai Sukhwinder Singh Ladu. Sant Ji himself gave Bhai Sahib Santhaya. Sant Ji had so much love for Bhai Sahib, that he looked after Bhai Sahib and taught them Sikh history and Gurmat education.

Bhai Sukhwinder Singh Ladu was born in the house of Sardar Darshan Singh and from the womb of Mata Gurbachan Kaur in the village of Rasodpur Mandi in the year of 1968. Bhai Sahib studied up till 5th class in the Village of Sanghan in Haryana and then came to Chownk Mehta to Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale on a full time basis. Sant Ji loved Bhai Sahib so much that they themselves gave Bhai Sahib Gurbani Santhaya. Whenever Sant Ji went away to do Gurmat Parchar they would take Bhai Sahib with them, before having langar Sant Ji would tell Bhai Sahib to recite the Shabad. In the young age Bhai Sahib completed the Santhaya of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj and started doing katha with Sant Ji.

When Sant Ji would tell Bhai Sahib to read out the Hukamnama Sahib from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj, Bhai Sahib with his beautiful voice would put his listeners at peace, elders as well as youngsters sitting in the sangat would praise Bhai Sahib’s skills to recite Gurbani so clearly. While staying at Chownk Mehta Bhai sahib also gained the skills of Shastar Vidya (education of weapons) on many occasions Bhai Sahib impressed Sant Ji in Gatka by stopping attacks, at these times Sant Ji would reward Bhai Sahib. Bhai Sahib was very fast in attacking and every strike of Bhai Sahib never went empty. Sant Ji was proud of Bhai Sahib’s achievements.

Form the 1st June 1984 till the 6th June 1984, the Indian army attacked Sri Darbar Sahib, Bhai Sahib was stationed at Jassa Singh Ramgharia Bunga. Here Bhai Sahib fought the Indian army along with Bhai Sahib Singh and fellow Singhs. When the Indian army fired open the Singhs at this bunga, Bhai Sahib showered bullets on to the invaders and killed many soldiers with hats. But the army then used cannons which seriously injured many Singhs including Bhai Sahib. Bhai sahib picked up an injured fellow Singh and made his way to the Parikarma, near the Dukh Bhanjani Beri, while Bhai Sahib Singh had attained Shaheedi. Then Bhai Sahib and Bhai Dayal Singh Raagi entered one of the rooms in the Parikarma. When the army came in to the Parikarma these Singhs once again showered bullets on to the Indian army from their positions and did not let a single soldier return back safe.

On 5th June the Indian army entered Sri Darbar Sahib with tanks, cannons and top machine guns. Looking at this Bhai Sahib, Bhai Mokham Singh and Bhai Dayal Singh realised they did not have the firepower to take on the tanks. On this day the curfew was lifted for short period of time and at this point all 3 Singhs managed to get out the complex after fooling the Indian soldiers.

In 1985, Bhai Manbir Singh Chaheru, Bhai Dhanna Singh, Bhai Dalip Singh, Bhai Ajaib Singh, Bhai Mokham Singh, Bhai Malkiat Singh, Bhai Gurdev Singh Usmanwala and Bhai Gurdev Singh Sattianwala met Baba Thakur Singh Ji and planned on how to continue the struggle started by Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale. On the 29th December 1985 a Shaheedi Smagam was held at Chownk Mehta, in which it was decided that the Kar Sewa of Sri Akaal Takht Sahib would take place. Aims and resolutions were passed by 5 Singhs, Bhai Sahib, Bhai Darshan Singh, Bhai Malkiat Singh, Bhai Mokham Singh and Bhai Bakshish Singh. These 5 Singhs declared the Sarbat Khalsa and Kar Sewa of Sri Akaal Takht Sahib. Bhai Sahib, Bhai Malkiat Singh and Bhai Darshan Singh were given the responsibility of the Kar Sewa. On the 26th January 1986, the Sri Akaal Takht Sahib which was built by the Indian government was brought down and the Kar Sewa of the new Sri Akaal Takht Sahib started. Bhai Sahib fulfilled his role with hard work.

On the 12th February 1987 Bhai Sahib was married to Bibi Narinder Kaur. She was the niece of Bhai Dhian Singh Mand and gave birth to Bhai Sahib’s son and daughter, Amandeep Kaur and Davinderpal Singh. Even though Bhai Sahib now had a family, Bhai Sahib did not turn his back on the Sikh Freedom Movement.

Bhai Sahib met Bhai Gurjant Singh Rajasthani and he left home to join the Khalistan Commando Force. The Khalistan Commando Force chose Bhai Sahib as a member of Panthic Committee. Bhai Sahib and Bhai Gurjant Singh Rajasthani did many big and brave actions which left the Indian security forces restless. At many times Bhai Sahib managed to escape from encounters and police checkpoints. When Surjit Barnala sent police into Sri Darbar Sahib, Bhai Sahib was also inside Sri Darbar Sahib with Bhai Malkiat Singh. When the police came on to the Parikarma, Bhai Sahib and Bhai Malkiat Singh both managed to fool the police and vacate the complex safely. Even outside Bhai Sahib was followed by the CRPF up till Jallianwala Bagh, but due to no description the Indian security forces laid of the Singhs. While staying at Sri Darbar Sahib, Khadku Singhs used to joke with Bhai Sahib, calling him one of the triplets as Bhai Sahib, Malkiat Singh and Darshan Singh had so much love for each other.

When Bhai Sahib met Gurcharan Tohra regarding the Kar Sewa of Sri Akaal Takht Sahib, Gurcharan Tohra started pulling out and said this Sewa was not needed. At this point Bhai Sahib pulled out his revolver and put it on the table and said, “Tohraya, do darshan of this” upon seeing the revolver Gurcharan Tohra agreed with everything. After this Bhai Sahib came on to the battlefield to fight the Indian security forces beside Bhai Gurjant Singh Rajasthani. Bhai Sahib punished many enemies of the panth and made the teeth of the Anti- Sikh elements turn yellow.

“Jab aav kee auouadhh nidhhaan banai ath hee ran mai thab joojh maro”

On 12th February 1992, Bhai Sahib was travelling on a scooter with fellow Singh, Bhai Kulwinder Singh to punish an enemy when all of a sudden they were confronted by Indian security forces at a checkpoint near Lalke. In the encounter both Singh’s attained Shaheedi. The Names of these Shaheed Singhs will forever shine.
