Shaheed Bhai Jarnail Singh Sodhiwal

Babbar Khalsa

Since 1947 the Sikhs have given their lives to abolish the chains of slavery. Once Mohammed Ali Jinnah said to Tara Singh, “Sikhs have always helped Hindus, but when Hindus get the power they will teach the Sikhs a lesson. At the moment you are hugging each other, calling each other brother, watch what happens later.” Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale told the sangat that 6 month before Master Tara Singh was to die, his waste was coming out of his mouth and that Master Tara Singh himself said that Waheguru has given him this punishment for betraying the Sikh nation.

Bhai Jarnail Singh Sodhiwal was such a warrior that did sewa to break the chains of slavery with his body heart and wealth. To give life for a good cause is not easy. Bhai Sahib was born in 1961, in the village of Sodhiwal, district Ferozpur.  Bhai Sahib was the only son of Sardar Chand Singh and Mata Gurnam Kaur. After his studies Bhai Sahib took on the responsibilities at home. After Indira Gandhi was assassinated, thousands of Sikhs were burnt alive and gang raped. This news had deep impact on Bhai Sahib and he took amrit from Panj Pyare, not having the guidance of Sant Mahapursh, Bhai Sahib joined local group of youngsters, when Bhai Sahib found out that this group of youngsters were looting the weak, he boycotted the group. Searching for the real singhs of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Bhai Sahib met Bhai Gurbaksh Ghukar, Bhai Gurmail Singh Secretary, and Bhai Naib Singh of Babbar Khalsa and joined them to do sewa of the panth. Bhai Sahib started punishing black cats and informants of the government.

One day the police surrounded Bhai Sahib after an informant had gave the location of Bhai Sahib to the police. One note has to be made here, about 80% of singhs killed were due to informants of the Sikh faith selling out on their own brothers. At his time Bhai Sahib only had a revolver and what stand could a revolver take against many machine guns. Bhai Sahib did not give up he alone took on the police with just a revolver. As Bhai Sahib changed position he was shot in the thigh, not being able to run Bhai Sahib hid himself in a ditch. Bhai sahib had no ammo, the Indian security forces found Bhai Sahib and arrested him. Bhai Sahib was taken to the police station where he was blindly tortured. The police asked him many questions about Babbar Khalsa, but Bhai Sahib did not say a single word that would jeopardise the lives of the singhs. Eventually Bhai Sahib attained shaheedi in police custody. The only member that fed the family had attained shaheedi for the panth. Bhai sahib’s parents only have 1 and half acre of land. Bhai Sahib’s father Sardar Chand Singh has recently been very ill.
