Shaheed Bhai Jagjeet Singh Dakha

Khalistan Liberation Force

Whenever the history of Khalistan will be written, the name of Bhai Jagjeet Singh Dakha will be written in golden ink. Even today the allys of Bunga village which is situated near Ahmedgarh reminds the locals of the fierce encounter in which Bhai Sahib attained Shaheedi.

Bhai Sahib was born in the famous village of Ludhiana, Dakha, in the house of Sardar Dharam Singh and from the womb of Mata Surjit Kaur on 13th September 1965. Bhai Sahib was the youngest of 3 sisters and 3 brothers. From childhood Bhai Sahib was attached to Sikhi and at the age of 6, Bhai Sahib took Amrit from the Panj Pyare. Bhai Sahib did his metric at a government high school in Dakha and then took admission in Guru Tegh Bahadhur National College of Dakha for his 11th. After passing his 11th class, Bhai Sahib started learning electrical work and typing also. After the attack on Sri Harimandir Sahib in which the Indian Army killed innocent Sikhs in their thousands, this act had a deep impact on Bhai Sahib, made Bhai Sahib make his mind up on joining the Sikh freedom movement with other Jhujaru Singhs to take revenge for the attack on Sri Darbar Sahib. Bhai Sahib did sewa of Jhujaru Singhs as much as he could from home, may it be providing Langar or a resting places for the Jhujarus. The Punjab Police soon got a wind of Bhai Sahib’s activities and started harassing Bhai Sahib and his family members. Bhai Sahib now understood that he would have to jump into the battlefield against the enemy.

Soon after being charged Bhai Sahib left home and went underground. Bhai Sahib joined the Jhujaru Singhs of Khalistan Liberation Force under the command of Jathedar Gurjant Singh Budhsinghwala and Bhai Sahib was now punishing anti-Sikh elements. The Punjab Police now started harassing and torturing the family members of Bhai Sahib. Bhai Sahib’s elder sister who was married in Kamalpura was also targeted along with her in-laws by the Punjab Police.

Once Bhai Sahib fell ill and went to Ludhiana city to get some medicine, but he was arrested by the Punjab Police. Bhai Sahib was brutally tortured and even after being charged with many cases. The locals managed to get Bhai Sahib bailed, after being bailed Bhai Sahib was re-arrested by Raikot police and once again mercilessly tortured. The locals once again had Bhai Sahib bailed and then Jathedar Bhan Singh Jhaman took Bhai Sahib to his house.

How could Bhai Sahib control the volcano that was erupting with revenge within him? Bhai Sahib’s close Jhujaru brother, Bhai Varinder Singh Dakha had been killed in a fake encounter by the Punjab Police. Bhai Sahib wanted to teach a lesson to the enemy for their cowardly act. Then one day Bhai Sahib met his fellow Jhujaru Singh he had been doing sewa with at a Sri Akhand Parth Sahib Bhog in the village of Bains, district Ludhiana. Bhai Sahib once again went underground with the Jhujaru Singh of Khalistan Liberation Force. Bhai Sahib started doing actions with Bhai Jarnail Singh Halwara, Bhai Jagroop Singh Khalakh, Bhai Joga Singh Kanpur and other Jhujaru Singhs of Khalistan Liberation Force. Bhai Sahib never hurt or killed any innocent person in his life. Bhai Sahib knew so much Gurbani by heart and due to this all the Jhujaru Singhs highly respected him.

On 25th June 1991, Bhai Sahib and Bhai Jagroop Singh Kalakh were resting in a house in the village of Bunga, near Ahmedgarh. The family whose house it was had become informants of the Punjab Police and for the reward the family mixed intoxicants in the tea and put it in front of the Singhs. Bhai Jagroop Singh Kalakh drank this tea but Bhai Sahib did not drink it and survived being drugged. Short while after the police force of Ahmedgarh surrounded the house in which the Jhujaru Singhs were in. When Bhai Sahib realised that he had been surrounded he tried to wake Bhai Jagroop Singh Kalakh who had been drugged. When Bhai Jagroop Singh Kalakh got up, he could not see anything, he told Bhai Sahib’ “I don’t know what these sinners have given to me, I can’t see anything. Pick up my Nagni (assault rifle) and teach the enemy a lesson”.

Bhai Sahib used the wall as his protection and opened the mouth of his assault rifle towards the enemy. Bhai Sahib sent many Indian soldiers to hell with no return ticket, the continuous firing of Bhai Sahib’s assault rifle scared the police force, they were wondering how many Jhujaru Singhs were in the house. They felt they had received the wrong information that there were only two Jhujaru Singhs. More Indian Security Forces were called for backup from Sangrur. In the room in which Bhai Jagroop Singh Kalakh was in, the Indian security forces threw bombs and he attained Shaheedi. Bhai Sahib now went all out against the cowardly enemy. The locals tell us, Bhai Sahib rained terror upon the Indian security forces like the Singhs did upon the Mughal armies in the battle of Chamkaur.

Bhai Sahib shouted the Khalsa war cries of “Bola So Nihal Sat Sri Akaal” as he challenged the Indian security forces. In the end, after many hours of fierce encounter, Bhai Sahib’s ammunition had finished. Instead of dying by the hands of the enemy, Bhai Sahib recited Waheguru and took his own life.
