Bhai Ajit Singh alias Bhai Bachittar Singh Sarhadi was born on 4th July 1965 in the house of Thanedar Buta Singh and from the womb of Mata Bachan Kaur, in the village of Batkana Boharwala near Dera Baba Nanak. Thanedar Buta Singh was also the area president of the Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee. Bhai Sahib’s parents taught their children the Sikh values at a young age and due to this Bhai Sahib had taken Amrit from the Panj Pyare in his childhood. Bhai Sahib was the youngest of 5 brothers and 6 sisters. Bhai Sahib would spend a lot of time looking at the photos of the martyrs from the time of the Sikh Gurus and then ask questions into why injustices were committed upon Sikhs and why were they martyred in different ways by the tyrants of that time. Hearing the stories of Sikh warriors like Bhai Taru Singh Ji, Bhai Bachittar Singh Ji, Bhai Banda Singh Ji Bahadur, Baba Deep Singh Ji and many more, Bhai Sahib became more passionate about Sikhi and would always do Ardas to follow the footsteps of these Sikh martyrs. Bhai Sahib completed his primary education at a local government school of Batkana Boharwala, and then he progressed to pass his metric from a school in Shahpur, near Goraya. Then Bhai Sahib took admission in the high school of Dera Baba Nanak and after passing higher education, Bhai Sahib started to help his family in household work.

In May 1984, the Sikh panth had lost a fearless warrior and the right hand of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale, this warrior was loved by all, his name was Bhai Surinder Singh Sodhi. The Sikh nation had not forgotten the martyrdom of Bhai Sodhi, when the Indian government attacked Sri Harimandir Sahib and killed innocent unarmed Sikhs in their thousands. Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale had told the Sikh nation that he is not against or for Khalistan but if Sri Harimandir Sahib is attacked by the army then that would lay the foundation of Khalistan. After the Sikh genocide of 1984, many Sikhs youths took up arms to defend themselves and create their homeland, in which Sikhs and Sikhi would be safe. During this time Bhai Sahib was at the age of 18/19 and had been affected deeply after seeing death in the disguise of India dancing upon the Sikhs. Bhai Sahib decided to join his Jhujaru brothers in armed struggle and serve justice to the killers of the Sikhs. Bhai Sahib did many actions and punished many anti-Sikh elements with the support of fellow Jhujaru Singhs such as Bhai Upkar Singh Insaaf, Bhai Kanwaljit Singh Kanba alias General Sher Singh and Bhai Suba Singh Shahpur. Bhai Sahib always took responsibility of actions as a Jhujaru Singh of Khalistan Liberation Army under the command of Bhai Narain Singh Chaura.

After sometime Bhai Sahib had earned the respect of other Jhujaru groups that were fighting on the battlefield with his brave actions. In the late 1980s Bhai Kanwaljit Singh Kanba and Bhai Suba Singh Shahpur has attained martyrdom fighting the Indian security forces. Bhai Sahib was deeply saddened upon hearing the separation from his two Jhujaru brothers, but Bhai Sahib kept in high spirits and continued to do brave actions.
