Shaheed Bhai Jagbir Singh Jagga Nagoke

For the wellbeing of Sikh Gurbani and Sikh Bana, many singhs and singhnia jumped into the battlefield to claim a Sikh Homeland, in the names of such warriors is Shaheed Bhai Jagbir Singh ‘Jagga’ Nagoke.

Bhai Sahib was born on 20th March 1965 in the house of Sardar Sardool Singh and from the womb of Mata Hardeep Kaur in the village Nagoke, district Amritsar. Bhai Sahib studied at a local school till 10th class. Bhai Sahib had 2 elder sisters, Bibi Randhir Kaur and Bibi Dalbir Kaur and also a younger brother, Bhai Sukhbir Singh. Bhai Sahib was married to Bibi Dalvinder Kaur daughter of Sardar Santokh Singh of village Tapiaan in 1978. Bhai Sahib had 2 daughters, Bibi Sandeep Kaur, Bibi Mandeep Kaur and had 2 sons, Bhai Jatinder Singh and Bhai Sukhjinder Singh.

Bhai Sahib attended a Mahan Kirtan Smagam organised by Dam Dami Taksal Jathedar Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bindranwale at Khadur Sahib from 8-11th April 1978. On the last day of the smagam, Bhai Sahib took Amrit from the Panj Pyare of Dam Dami Taksal. On that day 16 singhs from Nagoke and Bahadurpur took Amrit together. After Amrit sanchar all the singh including Bhai Sahib joined the jatha of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bindranwale. 13th April 1978, Bhai Sahib was present in the protest that took place against the Narakhdharis, and saw 13 singhs attain shaheedi. From this day onwards Bhai Sahib made the choice of joining the Sikh struggle and punishing the dushts.

June 1984, when Sikhs from all around the world were visiting Sri Harimandir Sahib for the Shaheedi Divas of Guru Arjun Dev Ji. The Indian Government had attacked Darbar Sahib, Bhai Sahib was inside the complex at that time. Bhai Sahib and some more singhs from the jatha had made an escape from Darbar Sahib Complex to fight another day. After the attack of Sri Harimandir Sahib, Bhai Sahib had met up with Bhai Kawarjit Singh Sultanwind and for the separate homeland of Sikhs Bhai Sahib jumped back into the battlefield. 1992 Uttarpardesh(UP), city Kanjanpur, Bhai Sahib had a fierce encounter with the police force. Many police officers were shot dead in the battle of village Kookaar near Kanjanpur. Bhai Sahib and his jatha escaped with no injuries. After the UP encounter Bhai Sahib came back to Punjab. March 1992 as Bhai Sahib was on his way to Sri Sachkhand Hazur Sahib, Punjab Police had arrested Bhai Sahib. For the next 17 days Bhai Sahib was tortured blindly by the Police of Tarn Taran.  The police could not get any information out of Bhai Sahib about his Jatha or any of the missions the singhs had done. On 20th March 1993 the police decided that Bhai Sahib was no good anymore as Bhai Sahib gave information. The police took Bhai Sahibs beaten and weak body to the garden of Karam Singh in village Poyian, there the police shot dead Bhai Sahib in a fake encounter. Bhai Sahib did panthic sewa at the highest level for 15 years. For the wellbeing of the panth Bhai Sahib became shaheed and joined the shaheeds of our rich Sikh history. An Akhand Paath Sahib was held at Baba Bakala Gurudwara in remembrance of Shaheed Bhai Jagbir Singh ‘Jagga’ Nagoke.
