Shaheed Bhai Harkewal Singh Sarabha

Khalistan Commando Force

In the Sikh struggle started by Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale, the name of Shaheed Bhai Harkewal Singh Sarabha is amongst some of the bravest Sikh warriors. To punish the traitors of the Sikhs and the anti-Sikh elements, Bhai Sahib had formed a group of Jhujaru Singhs in the village of Sarabha. Bhai Sahib was the area commander of Khalistan Commando Force under the command of Bhai Paramjit Singh Panjwar. Bhai Sahib was born on 18th November 1969 from the womb of Mata Surjit Kaur and in the house of Sardar Piara Singh. Bhai Sahib had a brother and one sister. Bhai Sahib passed his higher secondary education in Sarabha. Bhai Sahib was a good player of football and Kabaddi. Due to having immense love of Sikhi, Bhai Sahib had become an Amritdhari Gursikh in 1989.

Bhai Sahib had been secretly involved in Jhujaru actions since 1984, but in 1990 Bhai Sahib left the luxuries of home and jumped into the battlefield to punish the enemies of Sikhs. Bhai Sahib helped many local Sikh youth get off drugs and alcohol and come onto path of Sikhi. As well as that, many local Sikh youth joined Bhai Sahib and together punished traitors and police informants. Many Jhujaru Singh such as, Bhai Jagroop Singh Kalakh, Bhai Fauji of Siora village, Bhai Kuldeep Singh Keepa Sheikhupura, Bhai Kuldeep Singh Keepa Sarabha, Bhai Harbans Singh Bijli Sarabha, Bhai Gurdeep Singh Sarabha and Bhai Sukhwinder Singh Pappu Sarabha all had the honour of doing Jhujaru actions with Bhai Sahib.

Amongst many Jhujaru actions, Bhai Sahib spear headed the heist of State Bank of Patiala in August 1992. Many anti-Sikh elements were punished by Bhai Sahib who caused the Sikh nation damage. Bhai Sahib’s brother, Bhai Mohan Singh was in the Indian army and was later suspended from army duties. Bhai Mohan Singh was arrested and tortured beyond belief. After this he was charged with many false cases and imprisoned for almost 3 years.

Then in 1992, when most of the Jhujaru Singhs had attained martyrdom, the police touts and informants started roaming the streets seeking for Jhujaru Singhs like hyenas. Bhai Sahib along with his fellow Jhujaru Singhs, Bhai Satinder Singh Lucky and Bhai Sukhwinder Singh Pappu Sarabha shifted to West Bengal to avoid capture. But the informants were planted far and wide in India, a police tout spotted Bhai Sahib and had these Jhujaru Singhs surrounded by the Indian security forces on the outskirts of Calcutta. In a fierce battle, Bhai Sahib attained martyrdom on 1th July 1993. Bhai Satinder Singh Lucky and Bhai Sukhwinder Singh Pappu Sarabha were arrested and bought back to Punjab where they were tortured for information and then made martyrs in false encounter on 3rd July 1993.
