Shaheed Bhai Gurlaat Singh Fauji

Bhindranwale Tigers Force of Khalistan

Bhai Gurlaat Singh was born in 1969 in the house of Sardar Mahinder Singh and from the womb of Mata Gian Kaur in the village of Paddi Sura Singh, district Hoshiarpur. Bhai Sahib was the eldest of two brothers. Bhai Sahib studied up to 7th class at village Pandi Sura Singh and studied up till 9th class at a secondary school in Garhshankar. Bhai Sahib was very honest and always believed in hard work. Bhai Sahib was very highly respected in the village of his grandparents (mother-side). As well as studying, Bhai Sahib also worked on the farms with his Mama.

One day all of a sudden Bhai Sahib met some Khadku Singhs at a water tubal of his village as they were passing through the village. Bhai Jagir Singh Lakhowal, Bhai Harbhajan Singh Jago and other singhs of Khalistan Liberation Organisation. Slowly Bhai Sahib established a close friendship with the singhs. Bhai Sahib and Bhai Paramjit Singh Sodhi of village Longomahal, district Gurdaspur were very close friends and both singhs were carrying out mission for the Sikh panth in secret. The Punjab police came knocking on Bhai Sahib’s door and arrested him in relation to an action that was done in the area. The Garhshankar police blindly tortured Bhai Sahib, after 10 days Bhai Sahib was released after Bhai Sahib’s Mama Ji vouched for him. Then Bhai Sahib spent another 6 months doing sewa with Bhai Paramjit Singh Sodhi within the Sikh Freedom Movement.

One day Bhai Paramjit Singh Sodhi and fellow singhs came to the village of Bhai Sahib’s grandparents to punish an informant. Bhai Sahib was told not to get involved in the actual action and only to point out the informant to the singhs. When the informant was visible, Bhai Sahib pointed him out to the singhs, but the informant was with a child. Before the singhs could open fire onto the informant, Bhai Sahib quickly grabbed the child and moved him to the side while the singhs punished the informant who had many singhs killed by the hands of the Indian security forces. Bhai Sahib sent the child home, but when the police asked the child questions, the child told the police the exact information about Bhai Sahib. When the police came to arrest Bhai Sahib, Bhai Sahib was not at home, but the police took all the cattle of Bhai Sahib to the Garhshankar police station. After 15 days, Bhai Sahib’s father and the local panchayat talked Bhai Sahib into presenting himself to the police. Once Bhai Sahib turned himself in, the police released all the cattle and once again Bhai Sahib was blindly tortured. The police charged Bhai Sahib with murder and other fake cases and locked him up in Hoshiarpur jail after which Bhai Sahib was moved to Sangrur’s central jail and then to Nabha jail. Bhai Sahib passed his metric in jail. While in jail, the Majhita police had made Bhai Paramjit Singh Sodhi shaheed in a fake encounter, Bhai Sahib was very saddened upon hearing this the this news. After two years Bhai Sahib was released on bail, but even then the Punjab police would regularly harass Bhai Sahib at home. As Bhai Sahib had weapons himself, he continued to do sewa for almost 7 months by punishing many traitors of the Sikh panth.

Later Bhai Sahib came in contact with Bhai Pavittar Singh Babbar from the village of Totumajra, Bhai Sahib stayed with him and carried out many missions. Then Bhai Sahib met Bhai Dharam Singh Keshtival of Babbar Khalsa. Bhai Sahib roamed the area fearlessly and whenever the police knew that Bhai Sahib was coming they moved their checkpoints elsewhere. Bhai Sahib would normally go around the area on a scooter with and assault rifle attached at the bottom of the scooter. A secret meeting took place between Bhai Dharam Singh Keshtival, Bhai Pavittar Singh Babbar and other singhs of Babbar Khalsa including Bhai Sahib, but an informant had passed this information onto the police which resulted in the Indian security forces raided the location of the meeting. Some singhs managed to escape but one singh attained shaheedi by swallowing a capsule of Sy-Nyde. Bhai Sahib was arrested and the SSP Sumedh Saini had Bhai Sahib tortured brutally, but Bhai Sahib did not utter a single word that would please the SSP. A month later the panchayat managed to bail Bhai Sahib from the CIA Headquarters in Hoshiarpur. Upon being released Bhai Sahib did an action under the command of Bhai Dharam Singh Keshtival, Bhai Sahib rigged the CRPF camp in Nawashaher with explosives and when the bombs exploded 10 officers were killed with many wounded. The Punjab police raided the family house and arrested Bhai Sahib’s mother and the son of his Mama. The Punjab police also locked Bhai Sahib’s house and let lose all the family cattle. After some days, Mata Gian Kaur was released but Bhai Sahib’s cousin was charged after being charged with fake cases. Bhai Sahib had broken all attachments to his family and house and the only home that Bhai Sahib cared about was Khalistan.

Bhai Sahib then met another singh who he had spent time with in Nabha jail, Bhai Gurdial Singh Disha alias Master. Then for some reason Bhai Sahib lost contact with Babbar Khalsa. Bhai Sahib now joined Bhindranwale Tigers Force of Khalistan under the command of Bhai Satnam Singh Sheena and carried out big actions for the Sikh panth. Soon Bhai Sahib was rewarded for his sewa by being made an Area Commander in the Hoshiarpur area. As Bhai Sahib had reward on his head, he stayed at a Chaman Singh house who gave poison to Bhai Sahib and Bhai Gurdial Singh Disha which was mixed with milk and both singhs attained shaheedi on 16th September 1991. Later the police arrived and took the bodies of the singhs. The following morning at 4 am, the police performed a fake encounter on the shaheedi saroops of the singhs. Some days later the younger brother of Bhai Sahib, Bhai Balbir Singh was also made shaheed in a fake encounter. Today Mata Gian Kaur lives with her brother. We must not forget the sacrifice of such families that gave up the lives for our future. Also Chaman Singh who poisoned Bhai Sahib died later of mental illnesses.
