Babbar Khalsa

A beautiful young man from the village of Jabhowal, district Amritsar, Bhai Sukhjinder Singh Brar was a rare diamond of the Sikh nation. Such warriors gave their lives to lift back up the turban of the Sikhs, which was deliberately thrown to the floor by the Indian government.

Bhai Sukhjinder Singh Brar was born on 16th March 1964 in the house of Sardar Nirmal Singh and from the womb of Mata Amarjit Kaur, in the village of Jabhowal, district Amritsar. At the age of five Bhai Sahib had an accident with a truck, in which he wounded his right foot. After treatment Bhai Sahib’s foot recovered but a scar remained on the foot, which in the future would one of his identity features. Bhai Sahib’s father, Sardar Nirmal Singh was a serving soldier in the Indian army, for this reason, Bhai Sahib studied at the army schools. Bhai Sahib had a great interest in army games from childhood. Once as Bhai Sahib was doing archery with his friends, Bhai Sahib injured his left eye at the Udhampur army school. Bhai Sahib was taken to Jammu army hospital, here the doctors could not treat Bhai Sahib and Bhai Sahib with family was then sent to hospital in Amritsar. Here Bhai Sahib received treatment for 2 months, while this treatment was going on, something happened with Mata Amarjit Kaur that the family never can forget. Bhai Sahib’s mother, Mata Amarjit Kaur was sitting in the hospital with her eyes closed as though she was upset, when all of a sudden, Giani Puran Singh of Pinglewara, walked in and saw Mata Ji upset. Giani Puran Singh put his hand on Mata Ji and said, “Child, why are you upset? Nothing will happen to your son. When he grows up he has a lot of important sewa to do.”

After the treatment of Bhai Sahib’s eye, he had another scar on his left eye. Bhai Sahib studied at up till inter education, Bhai Sahib also became popular in the sport side of education. Bhai Sahib had won a cup for the best high jump and many more medals and trophies followed, which his family keep till today. Also from a very young age Bhai Sahib was into reciting Gurbani and always did paath from the sundar Gutka.

Few months before the attack on Sri Harimandir Sahib, Bhai Sahib finished his studies and came home to help the family with farming. The attack on the Sri Harimandir Sahib left Bhai Sahib devastated and wanting justice. In his village a Sri Akhand Paath Sahib was held, which was attended by the singhs of Dam Dami Taksal from Mehta Chownk. On this day more than 250 Sikhs took amrit and became sons and daughters of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

Bhai Sahib didn’t get the chance to meet Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale face to face, but after the 1984 attack Bhai Sahib would listen to audio cassettes of Sant Ji and learnt of how the Indian government mistreated the Sikhs in India. Bhai Sahib went to Sri Akaal Takht Sahib to take amrit and when Bhai Sahib came back home, he told his parents, “From today, I am not your son, I am the son of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Don’t expect to do stuff around the house, I want to give my life to the panth. I am going to live for few days and I will live in freedom.”

The family tried to stop Bhai Sahib but nothing worked. Bhai Sahib secretly started doing actions with Bhai Ranjit Singh Babbar and punished many anti-Sikh elements. After Bhai Ranjit Singh Babbar’s shaheedi, Bhai Sahib was chosen as the general of Babbar Khalsa in Amritsar.

Soon an informant gave Bhai Sahib’s information to the police. The police started raiding Bhai Sahib’s family house, but Bhai Sahib was never at home, for this reason the police arrested Sardar Nirmal Singh and told the family to free Bhai Sahib’s father, Bhai Sahib must hand himself to the police. Bhai Sahib now left home and went underground and did some of the biggest actions of the Khadku era.

  • In the village of Jodangarhi, the CRP headquarters attacked and 4 constables killed and 2 wounded.
  • Babbar Khalsa attacked the MLA of Chajhalvadi, killing the gunmen and taking their weapons.

Bhai Sahib wrote a letter to his elder sister and younger brother stating, “I could not do the sewa of our parents, but you will fill the gap I may have left. Waheguru has blessed me with the sewa of his panth. Singhs have a short life.”

Kabeer, I long to die, let me die at the Lord`s Door.

kabeer muhi marnay kaa chaa-o hai mara-o ta har kai du-aar.

At amritvela Bhai Sahib would do his nitnem for 2 and half hours and not eat or drink until Bhai Sahib finished his nitnem. Bhai Sahib also laid the foundation of Baba Bakshish Singh college, 9 classrooms were built under the guidance of Bhai Sahib but after the shaheedi of Bhai Sahib the construction of this college came to a halt.

14th June 1989, in the village of Bhamna, Bhai Sahib and singhs were preparing a bomb, when one of the singhs connected the wrong wires by mistake, which triggered the bomb. All the singhs attained shaheedi on the spot. The enemies were celebrating the fall of the panthic soldiers but the locals mourned the shaheedi of Bhai Sukhjinder Singh Brar and the singhs. The locals knew that they have lost a singhs who had delivered justice to many families when the Indian government failed to.

Some days after Bhai Sahib’s shaheedi, KPS Gill told the media that Bhai Sahib had been killed in a bomb blast. Information given by a close friend of Bhai Sahib, Bhai Sahib was to get stinger missiles from Afghanistan. According to KPS Gill, Bhai Sahib was preparing a full army with helicopters, ships and missiles. The Shaheedi of Bhai Sahib was known to be a big success to the Indian government.
