Shaheed Bhai Manjeet Singh Khujala

Lieutenant General Khalistan Liberation Force

Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale started a fight against the central government for the honour of the Sikh Kaum to give the Sikhs their rights, for which hundreds and thousands Singh’s and Singhnia attained Shaheedi for, one of them was Bhai Manjeet Singh Khujala.

Bhai Sahib was born in the village of Khujala, district Gurdaspur. Bhai Sahib’s father was Sardar Uttam Singh and mother was Mata Sivinder Kaur. Bhai Sahib received his primary education from the local primary school in his village. Bhai Sahib passed his 10th class at Batala High School with good marks. As a child Bhai Sahib was very religious, he devoutly enjoyed reading about the life stories about the 10 Guru’s and the 18th century Sikhs. Bhai Sahib used to take Santhaya of Gurbani Paath from the Giyani at the local Gurdwara in the village, and from a young age he was able to recite paath from Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Bhai Sahib was a great example of a Singh who lived his life according to Gursikhi jeevan. Bhai Sahib would tell the Sikh sangat stories about the Sikh Shaheeds and done Sikhi parchar. Bhai Sahib even joined Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and travelled far and wide to do parchar of Sikhi. People referred to Bhai Sahib as Giyani Ji. Bhai Sahib was a good looking young man, he had a long flowing beard, broad shoulders, big eyes, wide forehead and a beautiful Dastar on his head.

In 1983 Bhai Sahib was in Orissa doing Sikhi parchar. When he then came to Amritsar, he was influenced by Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale’s revolutionary thinking and joined the Dharam Yudh Morcha. Bhai Sahib joined hands with the leader of Akaal Federation Bhai Kanwar Singh. June 1984 the Indian Army attacked Sri Akal Takhat Sahib with tanks and missiles, but before the army attacked the Akaal Federation leader Bhai Kanwar Singh Dhami and other Singh’s managed to escape, Bhai Manjeet Singh Khujala met Bhai Sukhdev Singh Sakheera. They then looked for the Singh’s who had survived the genocide in 1984: Jathedar Durga Singh, Baba Gurbachan Singh Manochahal, Bhai Kuldeep Singh Muchal, Bhai Manbir Singh Chaheru, Bhai Mathra Singh, Bhai Tarsem Singh Kohar, Bhai Anokh Singh Babbar, Wassan Singh Zaffarwal, Jathedar Avtar Singh Brahma, Giyani Aroor Singh, Baba Ranjit Singh Diyalgar all got together and took the Sikh Struggle to a whole new level.

Bhai Manjeet Singh Khujala along with his companions established a group called Khalistan Armed Force to fight against Hindu Government to obtain Khalsa Raaj. Bhai Sahib was the General of Khalistan Armed Force. Due to the hard work and effort of Giyani Aroor Singh (Panthic Committee Member) he got 6 Jathebandiya together to form Khalistan Liberation Force, Bhai Sahib, Bhai Tarsem Singh Kohar and Bhai Kanwaljit Singh Deba alias Sher Singh Sher worked together under the command of Giyani Aroor Singh. The Singh’s attacked the security forces and eliminated many of their enemies. Bhai Sahib had announced that anyone who targets the Sikh Panth, the favour will be turned and they won’t be spared.

Due to a police informer Bhai Sahib was captured and arrested. The police mercilessly tortured Bhai Sahib to try and gain information about the other Singh’s. Bhai Sahib remained in Amritsar jail for one year, but his health started to deteriorate and was admitted to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital, where the police kept an eye on him. After staying the hospital for a month, Bhai Sahib got the opportunity to escape from there in the middle of the night with his handcuffs and shackles with the help of a companion. In the morning when Punjab Police seen that Bhai Sahib’s bed was empty they freaked out! They went to Bhai Sahib’s village and raided his house looking for him, when they couldn’t find Bhai Sahib they took Bhai Sahib’s family to the local police station. For quite a few days the doors to Bhai Sahib’s house remained open, the police had took all their furniture. While Bhai was on the loose he met Giyani Aroor Singh, Bhai Sher Singh Sher, and Bhai Manjeet Singh Tutiya and under the banner of Khalistan Liberation Force he fought for the freedom of the Panth.

In 1986 on Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Gurpurb Hindu thugs attacked a Nagar Kirtan in Hoshiarpur. The Sikh Sangat was attacked with stones and bricks, abuse was shouted at the Panj Pyare and Punjab Police stood and watched. The police file any cases against these Hindu thugs. With the attack on the Nagar Kirtan on Guru Ji’s Gurpurb the Sikh Kaum was devastated. The Akali Government didn’t even feel the need to take legal action against the thugs. The Akali Government Minister Surjit Singh Barnala has his hands stained with blood, he got so many young Sikh boys killed in fake police encounters to try and keep the leaders in Delhi happy. Barnala’s government had no laws or rules for the Hindu’s, eventually someone was going to speak against this injustice, so in November 1986 some Khadku Singh’s and decided enough was enough it’s time to teach these Hindu thugs a lesson, so they surrounded a bus in Hoshiarpur and shot 24 Hindu passengers. The next day this news was printed in the newspapers. Bhai Sahib then announced that Singh’s don’t kill any innocent person but just due to the recent events the Singh’s were full of rage and it leaded to this event.

Due to a police informer on the 10th of February 1987, Punjab Police arrested Bhai Sahib at Amritsar bus station and tortured him. Bhai Sahib’s hands were cut separate from his body. It is said that Bhai Sahib had a tyre put around him and was set on fire, that same night around 9pm Bhai Sahib was taken to the police station of Ghiranda near the village Sara Amanth Kha and then killed in a fake police fake encounter. The police harassed Bhai Sahib’s brother Jagdish Singh Khujala. For Bhai Sahib’s soul to rest in peace an Akhand Paath was done in a secret location. All the top Khadku Singh’s got together to pay their respects to this brave warrior, and his turban was tied on Bhai Jugraj Singh Toofan. Bhai Jugraj Singh Toofan swore that he will accomplish Shaheed Bhai Manjeet Singh Khujala goal and continue in the Sikh Struggle to obtain Khalsa Raaj.
