Shaheed Bhai Labh Singh Labha

Babbar Khalsa

Bhai Labh Singh was born on the blessed land where the 6th Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji Maharaj fought one of his historic battles against the Mughals. Bhai Labh Singh was born in 1958, in the house of Sardar Gurdev Singh and from the blessed womb of Mata Hameer Kaur in the village Gurusar Mehraj, near Rampura Phul, district Bathinda. Bhai Sahib was the second eldest of 3 brothers, eldest was Bhai Gurcharan Singh and the youngest was Bhai Lakhvir Singh. After his studies, Bhai Sahib joined the army and fulfilled his service for 8 years. Once Bhai Sahib came home on holiday and was involved in some personal dispute in which he had injured his hand and due to this he lost his army job. Bhai Sahib started helping his father in the farms. Bhai Sahib was married to Bibi Harmeet Kaur and had 2 children with her, Bhai Gurpreet Singh and Bibi Harpreet Kaur.

In 1986, Bhai Sahib went to Sri Darbar Singh to attain the blessings of Amrit from the Panj Pyare, here Bhai Sahib met the fearless Jhujaru Singhs of Babbar Khalsa. After establish this contact, Bhai Sahib came back home and continued to farm to provide for his family. Bhai Sahib continued to keep in contact with the Jhujaru Singhs of Babbar Khalsa, and slowly he started getting involved in Jhujaru actions while keeping a low profile. As well as carrying out Jhujaru actions, Bhai Sahib also promoted social reform in his area, helping women go back to their in-laws who demanded dowry etc.

Due to Jhujaru Singhs coming to Bhai Sahib’s home, the police kept a close eye on him. The police team of Rampura Phul would regularly raid Bhai Sahib’s home and arrest him and after blindly torturing him for 8-10 days, he would be released. Then on 25th January 1990, Bhai Sahib along with his family and another 2 Jhujaru Singhs attended Bibi Harmeet Kaur’s brother’s wedding in village Bhurj Dhilwan, district Mansa.  Police received this information via one of their informants and they surrounded the village asking the 3 Jhujaru Singhs to surrender themselves. The 3 sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj were not willing to surrender and after establishing this the Punjab police opened fire on them and making all 3 Jhujaru Singhs martyrs of Khalistan.

The postmortem of Bhai Sahib and the 2 Jhujaru Singhs was done in hospital in village Rampura Phul. The Punjab police cremated the 2 Jhujaru Singhs and gave the body of Bhai Sahib to his family to cremate. Shaheed Bhai Labh Singh Labha was cremated in the presence of his loved ones in his birth village Gurusar Mehraj.
