Shaheed Bhai Kulwinder Singh Happy

Sikh Student Federation/ Babbar Khalsa/ Khalistan Commando Force

Bhai Kulwinder Singh Happy was born on 17th October 1967, in the house of Sardar Jarnail Singh and from the womb of Mata Harjinder Kaur in the village of Chak Sabhu near Sultanpur, district Jalandhar. Bhai Sahib had 2 brothers, Bhai Jatinder Singh and Bhai Ranbir Singh. Bhai Sahib completed his 10th class education in a nearby village of Moron and continued his higher studies with a Double MA from different colleges. Bhai Sahib had a special fondness for Kabaddi and Weightlifting. Most of his childhood was spent in his maternal grandparents’ home at village Dharamkot (Moga). Bhai Sahib had chosen to become Amritdhari at young and tender job. This early attachment with Sikhi was inherently caused when Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale came to his maternal parents’ village for preaching. Such was the effect of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale’s words, that Bhai Sahib formed a close bond with Sikhi from then on.

During the Dharam Yudh Morcha, inspite of being of a rather young age, Bhai Sahib frequently visited Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar to be a part of the audience during Sant Ji’s speeches. In June 1984, the Indian government attacked Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar which led to many innocent Sikhs losing their lives. This incident led the Sikh youth to join the armed Khalistan movement in Punjab. Bhai Sahib came in contact with this movement while studying at the school of village of Moron. He along with his schoolmates, Bhai Ranjit Singh Rana (village Chokra), Bhai Baljit Singh Bamb (village Dhak Majra), Bhai Gurnek Singh Neka (village Chokra) and others started participating in the Khalistan armed struggle secretly. They all were supported by the Khalistan Commando Force Chief, Bhai Manbir Singh Chaheru.

Bhai Sahib continued to serve the Khalistani developments while completing his higher education in his college. It was in college that Bhai Sahib came in contact with members of All India Sikh Student Federation and started being actively involved their activities. During this period, Bhai Sahib never became a fugitive from his home. The reason behind this was his choice of helping his Sikh brothers while residing at his home. Bhai Sahib stressed that we not only need fugitives for running our organizations but also men at hand who reside at their homes freely. In this way Bhai Sahib helped his fugitive brothers by providing them with food, water, refuge, everyday utilities, ammunition from across the border etc. Bhai Sahib’s decision to stay at home caused him to face many atrocities at the hands of the Punjab police. The police frequently arrested him after surrounding his home and inflict heavy torture on Bhai Sahib. But he never revealed any important information to the police.

Bhai Sahib served almost all the organizations active around his region. Bhai Sahib was always dedicated to serve All India Sikh Student Federation, Babbar Khalsa under the command of Jathedar Talwinder Singh Babbar and Khalistan Commando Force under the command of Bhai Gurdeep Singh Deepa. Bhai Sahib became a close associate in many of the operations out of which the major ones include:

  • Part of a team which carried out the biggest bank robbery in Ludhiana to fund the armed movement of Khalistan. Action was done under Khalistan Commando Force.
  • Assassination of Murti Suri, a cruel police officer who killed many young Sikhs and harassed their families.
  • Bhai Sahib was also part of the team that assassinated lustful singers, Chamkila and Amarjot.
  • Part of the team which kidnapped the Romanian Ambassador to India, Liviu Radu.

Bhai Sahib served alongside Jathedar Talwinder Singh Babbar Parmar, Bhai Sukha Singh and Bhai Meeta (Gurdaspur), Bhai Gurdeep Singh Deepa Heranwala, BhaI Kulvir Singh Barapind, Bhai Ranjit Singh Bittu. Bhai Sahib also visited Pakistan for guerrilla training and meet other likeminded Jhujaru Singhs

.

On the fateful day of 15th of October, 1992, Bhai Sahib along with Jathedar Talwinder Singh Babbar and Bhai Sukha (Gurdaspur) were resting in a house somewhere near the village Kang Araiyan, district Phillaur.

These Singhs had just smuggled mass load of ammunition from Pakistan. The Punjab police was informed and all three brave hearts were caught. The police tortured all of the Singhs blindly. In the end, all three were made martyrs in a false encounter. As if this was not enough, the police showed its evil side during the encounter when it forcefully cut Bhai Sahib’s and Bhai Sukha Singh’s hair. When Bhai Sahib revolted, he was shot on his forehead. Bhai Kulwinder Singh Happy and Bhai Sukha Singh were presented as residents of Pakistan.
