Bhai Harjinder Singh Thekker Sandhu was born in the house of Sardar Harbhajan Singh and from the womb of Mata Sarwinder Kaur in village Thekker Sandhu, district Gurdaspur. Bhai Sahib had 2 brothers oldest was Bhai Gurmeet Singh, the youngest was Bhai Trilok Singh and 2 sisters Bibi Gurmeet Kaur, Bibi Ranjeet Kaur. Bhai Sahib was married according to the Sikh code of conduct in 1983 to Bibi Charanjeet Kaur daughter of Sardar Khajan Singh from Talwandi Chugla. Bhai Sahib and Bibi Charanjeet Kaur had 1 daughter, Bibi Gurjeet Kaur, who was very religious.

Bhai Sahib was also very religious from a young age. In 1980 Bhai Sahib took admission into Dam Dami Taksal and amrit from the Panj Pyare. On a later that the whole family of Bhai Sahib also took Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s gifted amrit. Bhai Sahib loved, respected and recited gurbani all the time. Bhai Sahib took part in many Dharam Yudh Morche and also spent 6 months in Faridkot Jail. At the time of 1984 attack on Sri Harimandir Sahib, Bhai Sahib was in Thekker Sandhu. After the killings of innocent Sikhs, Bhai Sahib started being depressed and shocked. Bhai Sahib wanted to do something for the Sikh nation, Bhai Sahib wanted to help the Sikh nation get justice but the Indian courts don’t give justice to Sikhs. In search of this Bhai Sahib met up with Bhai Wassan Singh Zaffarwal and Bhai Tarsem Singh Kohar. Bhai Sahib started doing sewa for the panth secretly. The police soon were informed by the black cats of Bhai Sahib and the police then started harassing the family and searched Bhai Sahibs house on daily basis. Bhai Sahib permanently started staying with Baba Thakur Singh Ji at Mehta Sahib as Baba Ji’s Gunman. In 1986 the police arrested Bhai Sahib as the family was visiting the in-laws in Talwandi Chugla. The police planted bomb, assault rifle and ammunition on Bhai Sahib and sentenced Bhai Sahib for 3 years in prison. Bhai Sahib was sent to Gurdaspur, Nabha and Sangrur Jails to complete the sentence. Bhai Sahib was bailed out and later acquitted of all cases as lack of evidence was provided by the police. The police did not stop harassing Bhai Sahib’s family, the police continuously searched and insulted the family. The police could not get their hands on Bhai Sahib as Bhai Sahib was staying with Baba Thakur Singh Ji at Mehta Sahib. Bhai Sahib loved reciting gurbani, so Baba Thakur Singh Ji gave Bhai Sahib the sewa of reciting gurbani to Baba Ji. Bibi Charanjeet also stayed at Mehta Sahib with Bhai Sahib. 22nd January 1993 Baba Thakur Singh Ji and Jatha were on their way back to Mehta Sahib. The Mehta police stopped the Dam Dami Taksal bus and arrested Bhai Sahib while Bhai Sahib was reciting gurbani to Baba Thakur Singh Ji. Mehta police then handed Bhai Sahib over to the Tahriwal police. The police tortured Bhai Sahib blindly to get information on other Khadku Singhs. The police did not succeed in getting any information, only words coming out of Bhai Sahib were “Satnam Waheguru”. The SHO Sawarn Singh of Tahriwal Police Station took the badly beaten Bhai Sahib to the field on the night of 24th January 1993, and killed Bhai Sahib in a fake encounter.

Next day 25th January 1993 the police press stated;

In the last 24hours an encounter took place in Tahriwal, district Gurdaspur. In the encounter 1 terrorist was killed and 1 police officer was injured. A Khalistan Liberation Army member Bhai Harjinder Singh Thekker Sandhu was being transported when Bhai Sahib’s group attacked the police. As Bhai Harjinder Singh Thekker Sandhu tried to escape the police shot him, and straight after Bhai Sahib died. Bhai Harjinder Singh Thekker Sandhu was the Lt. General of Khalistan Liberation Army, Bhai Sahib also transported weapons and ammunition to Khadku Singhs and was wanted for more than 50 murders.

An Akhand Paath of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was held at Gurudwara Gurdarshan Parkash in Mehta Sahib. Sikh sangat came from all over India to pay respects to this great warrior of the panth.
