Shaheed Bhai Dilbagh Singh Kohali

Khalistan Liberation Force

Khalistan Liberation Force’s area commander, Bhai Dilbagh Singh Bagha alias Mini Jago was born on 10th July 1971 in the house of Sardar Niranjan Singh and from the womb of Mata Veer Kaur, who were the residents of village Kohali, district Amritsar. Bhai Sahib was the oldest child and had one brother and two sisters. Bhai Sahib attended primary school until 8th grade at village of Chainpur, while he was in school, Bhai Sahib would often visit Sri Harimandir Sahib for darshan.

Bhai Sahib was deeply affected by the Indian government’s attack on Sri Darbar Sahib. Bhai Sahib left his home and decided to join the struggle for Khalistan. Bhai Sahib had dropped his education and went to Sri Darbar Sahib to do Seva. While he was in Darbar Sahib, Bhai Sahib came in contact with Jhujaru Singhs. Here he stayed with Jhujaru Singhs for some time before resuming his education at a high school in Kohali. While Bhai Sahib was still in school, he kept in touch with Jhujaru Singhs. Finally, he was able to get in touch with Bhai Satnam Singh Sheena of Bhindranwale Tigers Force of Khalistan.

Bhai Sahib was arrested in connection to an incident in a nearby village, he was taken to Lopoke police station and was subjected to extreme torture. The family of Bhai Sahib gathered Panchayat leaders from nearby villages and by putting pressure on the police were able to get him released from jail. Bhai Sahib was expected to go to the police station daily, while the police also continued to come to Bhai Sahib’s village for questioning. Whenever any incident took place in the area, the police would arrest Bhai Sahib without any proof and subject him to inhumane torture. Because of this, Bhai Sahib decided to escape. In 1989, Bhai Sahib went underground and carried out several missions with the Jhujaru Singhs of Bhai Satnam Singh Sheena’s group. The police also continued to humiliate and torture Bhai Sahib’s family.

After some time, Bhai Sahib joined Babbar Khalsa under the command of Bhai Kabal Singh Fauji. After two of the Singhs, Bhai Hardyal Singh Mast Khayala and Dr Angrej Singh Chak Mishri attained martyrdom, Bhai Sahib joined Khalistan Liberation Force under the command of Bhai Harbhajan Singh Mand. Due to many successful missions he carried out, Bhai Sahib was made the Area Commander. Bhai Sahib managed to escape every time he was surrounded by the Indian security forces.

Before Bhai Sahib had left Babbar Khalsa, he had disagreements with Bhai Kabal Singh Fauji, but Bhai Sahib wasn’t aware of this grudge being held against him by Bhai Kabal Singh Fauji. On 6th January 1991, day Sunday, Bhai Sahib had fallen ill and was unarmed in the village of Chiwanda as he recovered. Bhai Sahib was sitting near a water tubal when he was betrayed and killed by the other faction and forever taken away from us.

Shaheed Bhai Dilbagh Singh Bagha’s last rites were performed at night by the Jhujaru Singhs of Khalistan Liberation Force at Gurdwara Gurusar near the village of Brar. The next day, Bhai Sahib’s family and nearby villages were informed of his martyrdom. Although police force tried their best to stop people from going to the Sri Akhand Paath Sahib Bhog, about 20,000 people arrived to pay their respects to a fallen soldier of Khalistan. Khalistan Liberation Force’s Bhai Harbhajan Singh Mand’s sister and some Jhujaru Singhs attended the Sri Akhand Paath Sahib Bhog held by Bhai Sahib’s family in disguise.
