Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale made the Sikh youth realise the slavery they had upon themselves under the Government of India, and this realisation ignited the fire of freedom amongst Sikhs. On one signal of Sant Ji, many Sikh youth were ready to give their lives and amongst these Sikhs was Bhai Dalbir Singh Khela who had the passion to sacrifice his life for the Sikh Panth. Bhai Sahib was born on the holy land of Govindwal Sahib in a village called Khela, in the house of Sardar Jassa Singh Sarpanch and from the womb of Mata Gurdeep Kaur.

Bhai Sahib completed his worldly education and then started working as an inspector in the Co-operative Society. Bhai Sahib was married and had 2 sons and 2 daughters. Bhai Sahib had all the worldly happiness in his house, Bhai Sahib was a true Nitnemi who never missed his prayers. On one side the Indian Government was committing injustices upon Sikhs and pushing them deeper into slavery, on the other side Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale was creating awareness of the slavery that hung upon the Sikhs and the only way to eradicate slavery was to give sacrifices. It was listening to these words of Sant Ji that Bhai Sahib decided to join the Sikh freedom movement and sacrifice himself for Sikhi.

At first Bhai Sahib did sewa of providing Langar to his Jhujaru brothers who were living in the jungles and had no permanent source of Langar. Slowly as the colours of the Sikh freedom movement coloured Bhai Sahib, he became a headache for the Government of India. Bhai Sahib did actions with many Jhujaru Singhs and in every encounter Bhai Sahib caused havoc upon the enemy before making a safe escape. For a long time Bhai Sahib remained underground and soon he came under the eye of the Indian Security Forces. In the end Bhai Sahib was arrested and heavily tortured, even during torture Bhai Sahib recited Gurbani and never missed his Nitnem.

Bhai Sahib fooled the police officers and escaped from the police station. The bars of Nabha jail and its torture did not fade away the passion for freedom. Bhai Sahib did actions with Bhai Baljit Singh Khela of Bhindranwale Tigers Force of Khalistan and Jhujaru Singhs of Khalistan Liberation Force. Seeing the brave action of Bhai Sahib, the senior Jhujaru Singhs ranked Bhai Sahib the Lieutenant General of Khalistan Liberation Force.

Bhai Sahib was travelling on a bus from Tarn Taran to Harike on duties given by his Jathebandi. The Punjab Police got this information and arrested Bhai Sahib. The cruel police officers blindly tortured Bhai Sahib but could not get information from Bhai Sahib as he stayed in deep meditation. In the end when the police saw no progress and none of their torture tactics working, they made Bhai Sahib Shaheed in a false encounter. This happened on 4th October 1991.
